Volunteer Opportunities

CMWR is a nonprofit organization so every position is volunteer-only. But when you volunteer with CMWR, you'll get close-up experiences and be able to handle wildlife species and help give them a second chance in their natural habitat back in the wild.

​Transporters in Central MS:

  • must be ready for on-call basis

  • have a flexible schedule

  • have a valid driver's license

  • have a reliable vehicle that's insured

  • must be responsible for your own fuel

  • living near Starkville, Hattiesburg, & Jackson are a plus



Center Volunteers in Meridan:

  • clean cages and pens

  • prepare meals and feed wildlife

  • maintain organization and upkeep of the center

  • wash and fold laundry

  • monitor and bathe wildlife

  • shifts of 3 days a week for at least 2 hours a day

Home-based Rehabilitators:

  • MUST be able to commit a considerable amount of time to rehabilitating

  • clean and maintain upkeep for cages and pens

  • shop for then prepare meals and feed wildlife

  • monitor and wildlife and bathe if needed

  • administer medications if necessary

  • contact finders and manage pickup for wildlife

  • admit new wildlife patients and manage records from intake to release

  • must have outdoor enclosures that meet minimum state requirements

  • willing to fund their own supplies and veterinary care

  • have a dedicated room for wildlife away from children, pets, TVs, and other loud noises that can stress the wildlife

  • understand that death and suffering in wildlife will be observed in some cases
